Why your site has to look perfect on a phone
By Riri
Think about the last time you looked up a restaurant, a nail salon or a mechanic. You were probably on your phone, maybe standing in a parking lot or lying on the couch. Your customers are doing the exact same thing. That’s why I design every site for the phone first and the computer second.
First impressions happen in seconds
When a site opens on a phone and the text is tiny, the photos are cut off, or you have to pinch and zoom to find the phone number, most people don’t fight it. They hit back and tap the next business. A site that looks clean and easy right away tells them: this place has it together.
What “perfect on a phone” really means
It’s more than the site shrinking to fit. Here’s what I check on every site I build:
- Readable text. No squinting, no zooming.
- Thumb-sized buttons. Call, book and directions are easy to tap without hitting the wrong thing.
- The important stuff up top. What you do, where you are and how to reach you show up without endless scrolling.
- Fast loading. Photos are sized for phones, so the page doesn’t crawl on cell data.
- Nothing hidden or broken. Menus open, forms work and nothing slides off the side of the screen.
Google notices too
Google looks at the mobile version of your site when it decides how to show you in search. A site that works well on phones is simply in better shape to be found.
Your computer view still matters
Phone first doesn’t mean phone only. Plenty of people still find you from a laptop at work, so every site I build gets checked on a big screen too. It should feel just as polished there, with nothing stretched, blurry or awkwardly empty.
A quick test you can do right now
Open your current website on your phone and pretend you’re a new customer. Can you find your prices in a few seconds? Can you call with one tap? Does it look as good as your business does in person? If you hesitated on any of those, that’s exactly what I fix.
